My Best friends Mom

My best friends mom had cancer she went to chemo. Talked to many doctors who said they could not operate, she found one who would and he did. After a long fight her cancer was gone for about four or five months. It came back she is now fighting again the outlook is not good, they say there is nothing they can do.

The other day she was out of the house working on the solar pool heater. She had turned off everything and it exploded covering half of her with scalding hot water. this left her with second degree burns over 1/4 of her body including her face and neck.

I went to see her today she is in the burn unit in Sherman Oaks (supposedly the best this side of the Mississippi) she is in good spirits and was glad to see someone other than her immediate family. I hung out for about an hour and we caught up on life and all.

Its odd that some people are scared to see her like this, "she is the same person only crispier" as she says.

i think it's hard in general to see anyone that reminds you of your own mortality.

That Sherman Oaks burn center is the best! I think it is hard to see people in the hospital sometimes and fear that their adverse response might have a negative effect on the person they are visiting.

I am glad to hear that the crispy patient is getting on with a good sense of humor....that + family + friends + awesome care = getting out of there.
